⚽️⚽️⚽️ Forres Mechanics FC 140th Anniversary Sportman’s Dinner 2024 ⚽️⚽️⚽️

We are delighted to announce our 140th anniversary Sportsman’s Dinner will take place at the Mosset Tavern, Forres on Friday 10th May 2024 🍾 🟤🟡

The evening will be hosted by well-known after dinner compère Ian Thain and the Club are delighted to have landed two of the best after-dinner speakers for the event:

🗣 JOHN HARTSON – John Hartson is a highly respected footballer who was probably best known for playing with Arsenal, West Ham and Celtic. He also had spells in England’s top league for Wimbledon, Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion and in the Football League for Luton Town and Norwich City.

He is now a familiar face and regular pundit on a number of sports programmes on both television and radio. He was also a Welsh international performing 51 times for his country scoring 14 goals. This record makes John the ninth highest top scorer of all time for the international team.

After his playing career ended he was later very proud to be a coach with the Welsh National team until
2013. He appears regularly as a studio guest on ITV’s coverage of the FA Cup and also appears on BBC Radio 5 Live’s coverage of both Premier League and Champions League games, BT Sport and Viaplay as a match summariser.

A very physical presence on the pitch and hugely skilled player, after retiring from the game. John battled back from a critical condition to defeat lung and testicular cancer and so is well placed to motivate audiences of all descriptions.

When playing for Celtic he made 146 appearances scoring 88 goals and was part of the famous deadly trio which also included Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton. During his trophy laden spell with Celtic he won the Scottish Premier Championship three times, the Scottish Cup twice and the League Cup once. He was also the Welsh Footballer of the Year on three occasions, the Scottish PFA Player of the Year in 2005 and the SFWA Footballer of the Year in 2005.

🗣 PAUL REID – Having started on the after dinner speaking circuit in 1998, Paul has travelled the length and breadth of Scotland to speak at a whole range of events. Paul is known, primarily, as a soccer impressionist. He portrays most of the personalities from the ‘national’ game, with witty stories and hilarious impressions.

Paul has starred on top rated TV shows like BBC’s ‘Only an Excuse with the legendary Jonathan Watson and also BBC radio Scotland’s ‘Off the Ball’ with Tam Cowan and Stuart Cosgrove. Paul also makes time to do regular voiceovers for radio commercials.

Paul has also spoken at a number of high profile football events such as Mark Hateley’s testimonial weekend in Monaco, ex Celtic captain Neil Lennon’s testimonial dinner, Glasgow Rangers Barca Bears’ Reunion. He was also chosen by The Daily Record to be guest speaker at ex Celtic player Lubomir Moravcik’s benefit dinner in Glasgow. He is always delighted to share his alternative view of ‘our’ national game with more and more audiences throughout the UK.

Early booking is advised as we expect places for this event to go quickly. The event is priced at £70pp (if applicable) with group bookings available on request – to book contact the club via our social media platforms or speak to a committee member.

We look forward to seeing you on what promises to be a fantastic evening.
